long time no speak!

Do you know where I can find out what the airlines are like for this type of thing? I know I can check with airlines about their policy, but do you know anyone who still regularly sends the kids abroad who knows where to find out from other parents which airlines should be avoided?

Did that make any sense at all rofl
(it's a bit early for me)

Sorry, I'm not up-to-date on this (my kids are now in their early 30s and the grandon is way too young to travel alone)If I were in your position, I'd be googling franticly. And checking the relevant airline websites. The main difficulty is that some major carriers no longer take unaccompanied minors - well, they do but they don't dedicate a steward any more. KLM used to be brilliant, but that was in the days when kids were invited into the cockpit. Lufthansa home from Cameroon was also good. My 2 flew out to China when they were 9 and 13 and were picked up in Hong Kong by someone they'd never met before.
A colleague in Cameroon had her children flown out from Russia with labels round their necks when they were under five.
I'm sure your two will be fine - no different from the old days when we were put on trains and met by auntie at the other end. I hope you will continue to keep them in touch with their English family this way. Make sure they have orders to phone as soon as they land. That's one thing that's improved vastly. star star

Don't go BA unless there is no other alternative. Smaller planes are obviously better than Jumbos. Thos Cook used to do helpful individual service for lone travellers star star

oh thanks!
I finally got an answer from my travel agent - yep, Lufthansa do it. I've since heard from another family that Lufthansa are pretty good.

Now I need to find out from Manchester airport if they will let Grandma accompany them all the way to the gate for bording.
But it seems that now they're a wee bit bigger it's "ok"
smiley

and after all, I used to travel all around the place via various different modes of transport to school (as did the kids from Hong Kong, New Guinea and who knows where) and we all survived.

btw...

they did the trip on their own and were mightily impressed by being treated as VIPs.

They also got to ride from the plane to the terminal in the crew bus, and the stewardess came over and told me how well behaved they had been - unlike many other children she had watched over. ok

So now they will be doing it each way this year. And of course, I've done myself out of my annual weekend alone in the UK for shopping laugh

Having just seen you around - now they can't wait to go flying without me, little pests. So that's my yearly excuse for a shopping weekend in Sheffield out of the window (can't afford it anyway, but that's not the point)

Anyway, i was wondering. Would you mind if I added you to my friends list?

biggrin

My job... well, I have different customers now. I swapped with Missy-promoted-over-my head. Not my choice.

And I took on extra customers because one of our new girls couldn't cope. And I'm still only managing to fill about 2 hours a day wit real work. So... basically it's quite relaxed. Money for old rope, in fact.

How are things with your reduced working plans?
