Ahhhh you never forget your first ghost! smiley

I was 14 and I was staying with a friend who lived in a medieval house with a Georgian frontage. She had the attic room and we retired to bed. About midnight I heard someone coming up the stairs that lead to her bedroom. I assumed it was her mum, but there were about 15 steps and there were the footsteps just kept on coming. So I got out of bed opened the door and there was no one there. So I went back to bed - the same thing happened. This time I went down to check and see if any one was around. Every one was in bed so I went back to mine. Turning the lights off as I went. The footsteps started again - I looked out to find all the lights had been turned back on. I turned them off and went to bed - this time I ignored the footsteps and hid under the duvet - then the room went cold - so cold I could not stop myself from shaking. I just lay there and tried to sleep desperately.

The next morning I asked my friend's family if they had been up and about last night. When I explained what I heard they laughed and said "Yes that is the resident ghost" as if they were referring to a pet of some kind. They told me that at the beginning of the century the house had been a hotel and had caught fire. Only one person had failed to get out because he had tried to make his way up to the attic and escape via the roof and had slipped and fallen to his death. sadface

I didn't sleep for weeks after and still cannot believe how blase they were about it all but there you go! smiley

I've never known someone who had an up front encounter with a ghost! Just shows you what a small world this is.

I think my cupboard is haunted 'cos it is always cold in there even in summer.
