Posted Feb 24, 2007 by U6267783 As a self-confessed pic n mix connoiseur, i would just like to point out that the price has become ridiculous for what you get. Have you noticed that penny-sweets are becoming fewer and further between these days, with the rise in popularity of pic n mix? When i was a lad, fizzy cola bottles (still my favourites!) were a penny each. But now, sold by weight, they work out at about 5p each! What's that all about? And there's no "lightweight" sweets like flying saucers at the pic n mix counter, how many of them could you get to the pound? But, despite my whinging, i still go back for more.
If fizzy cola bottles are your thing, i have to recommend the Candy King brand as these are the ones most likely to make you look like you're trying to squeeze your face out through your mouth.

Used to be able to go to town on the bus, have a bag of sweets and still have change from a tanner [6d, or 2.5p in this modern money] Of course, at the same time, 4 star was about 7/0 a gallon [equivalent to less than 8p a litre] Lots of things have come down in price relatively, though, I pay less for music than I did 20 years ago
