red marks

"If the bra leaves red marks, it is probably too small."

Actually, it is virtually impossible to wear a band size which is too small - you wouldn't be able to get it on.

A bra will always leave a certain amount of red marks, even if it's too big, so this is not an indication that you need a bigger size. If the band of your bra is so big that it doesn't leave any red marks at all, it will be far too loose.

Contrary to popular belief, the band of your bra is actually meant to be quite tight, and it should fit on the biggest adjustment only. (in case it stretches) You should only be able to run a couple of fingers around inside the band, and unless it's actually painfully tight, it's not too small.
