The only reason I can see why NZ chooses the cockroach as the symbol of Y2K, is that when WW3 starts as the result of computer malfunction, the cockroaches will be our new insect overlords.

Hmm - did the bug not happen, or did I just halucinat ethe last 8 months or so? winkeye .

I think NZ choise the cockroach as it inspires, in humans, fear out of all proportion to its magnitude...just as the millennium bug did.
