The problem has just self-corrected when I opened h2g2 on a new tab (it didn't work the first time I tried that).
Perhaps I used a wierd combination of keys when typing but I don't think so.....
Grelims perhaps
Sorry for the bother
azerty azerty <- just for the fun of it

Posted 4 Weeks Ago by 2legs- Splendixum alcocilium absolutix totalatarium. The alt key and shift switches languages, so mine switches between uk english and us english on that key combination; I don't know, if the alternative keyboard layout (IE. the non qwerty keyboard), is basically the same as that, I'd have thought so as its just a differnt assignemnet of ascii characters to key presses the same as is the case with differnt language versions on the same keyboard I can't imagine trying to learn a differnt layout to qwerty... I've been over 130 WPM on a qwerty when I typed a lot though I'm not so quick now..

that wasn't what was being said, believe me
think more along the lines of a well-known Charles Aznavour song (and no not the 'my friends' or the 'my loves' part

Hi 2legs,
just seen your message (my former post was for toybox). I'd never used a qwerty keyboard except as I struggled to make post no. 1 understandable.
I think i did press the 'control' key by accident as I was typing something. Can't remember what though!

Posted 4 Weeks Ago by Whisky It's two keys together in the bottom left of your keyboard that do it... shift/ctrl or shift/tab or something like that...
Best way to stop it happening again is to remove all references to other keyboards from your control panel...
Start / Control Panel / Regional and Language options...
Under the tab marked 'languages', there's a button marked 'details...' (Under "text services and input languages")
The "details..." button will open up a second popup... In there will be a list of languages and keyboards under "installed services"... make sure the only thing in that box is the primary language you use and the keyboard you use...
For example, mine says:
FR French (France) ...Keyboard ......French
If there are any other keyboards listed, use the remove key to get rid of them.
Secondly, at the bottom of the same window is a button marked "Language Bar" click on that and make sure the buttons "show the language bar on the desktop" and show additional language bar icons in the taskbar" are both unchecked (not selected)...
Do that little lot and you can be fairly certain it won't happen again...
It's a bugger when it does happen if you're typing away at full speed and don't notice it straight away (not looking at the screen) - I've ended up with half a page of gibberish because of that particular keyboard shortcut on a number of occasions.

Posted 3 Weeks Ago by Malabarista - considering the aesthetics of variable-altitude livestock I manage to set my keyboard to qwerty fairly often accidentally, usually in ArchiCAD or Photoshop, and then only notice when none of the keyboard commands works anymore
