Richard Todd -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8394812.stm

From w*k*

During the Second World War, Todd joined the British Army receiving a commission in 1941. Initially, he served in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry before joining the Parachute Regiment and being assigned to the 7th (Light Infantry) Battalion as part of the British 6th Airborne Division.

On 6 June 1944, as a Captain, he participated in the British Airborne Operation Tonga during the D-Day landings.

Capt. Todd was among the first British officers to land in Normandy as part of Operation Overlord. His battalion were reinforcements that parachuted in after glider forces had landed and completed the main assault against Pegasus Bridge near Caen.

He later met up with Major John Howard on Pegasus Bridge and helped repulse several German counter attacks.

As an actor, Todd would later play Howard in the 1962 film The Longest Day.

*scratches her head*

Okay, can anyone shed any light on this puzzler.

I thought I'd look, see what date I started the thread for the 2009 deathlist, the first post states 'Posted Dec 31, 2008' doh

I didn't post it on the 31st did I? That's our closing date.

I know my memory is bad, and I got stressed over waiting to start the game, but surely it wasn't that late. Does anyone remember?

My recollection is that the closing date is about 20th January.

Hence Coelacanth lost out one year when one of her list died on the 15th or something.

So 31st December sounds reasonable to me.

As that wasn't a true calandar year, that rule was changed for 2008 deathlist (A30572985)

The closing date is now 31 December. There's no closing date on this year's, just 'ASAP'. It doesn't matter, it's just puzzling me. smiley

I'll probably start deathlist 2010 this weekend. I've used the converstaion regarding a possible name change to come up with a new email address. magic

You were that late last year. I remember, because I was at my sister's at the time.

You may have too in a later year, but it was the Coelacanth episode I recall strongly as there was a bit of an argument about it iirc and it annoyed me a bit that such a good prediction wouldn't count for points. Especially with an arbitrary deadline such as the 20th Jan.

Ah well, no me who makes the rules I guess.

cheers Bel, and all. Jeez, I must've been pulling my hair out trying to get all the lists and scoreboard sorted in that short time, though I don't remember. doh

magwitch, the new email address hasn't been revealed yet, you've not missed anything. I'll post link for Deathlist 2010 here as usual, when it's started. ok smiley

Orcus, we now cover the whole year, from 1 Jan - 31 Dec. Which is why I found it so hard to believe that this year's was started 31 Dec. Though I think most sent their lists before then. erm

The 2008 thread rules were "before January 1st 2008" and the thread was started on 1st January 2008 (I was following the 2007 thread as a non-player so sent my list on 31st dec 07 hoping I wasn't too late.)

However, I sent my 2009 list on 10th Jan because we were given some grace:

What a difference a year makes winkeye
