| Posted Jan 25, 2001 by Nikki-D I think the Brish have been "snoozing" and "dozing" long before the War of Independance. Don't know if that's what we called it.
Why are there "forty winks" ?

Posted Jan 25, 2001 by ? How long is 1 wink, for that matter?

Posted Jan 25, 2001 by Is mise Duncan Snoozing is of unknown origin (according to my sources) and dozing has Scandanavian roots. It seems likely that before the war of independence the British were all napping - as it is only reasonably recently that this has changed from meaning a full sleep to meaning a short sleep.

Gadzooks! This thread has been dangling since Jan 2001?! I don't mean to pick nits, but it seems you folks haven't exhausted the topic of incongruities between English and "American"??? I'd better start at the beginning, cut & paste for copius notes, and steal all the ideas for my thesis.

Yesterday one of our lost kittens turned up, too - there must be a connection.

Kittens play with balls of string... These postings are composed of threads... Certainly they're all intertwined... But there's no conspiracy theory associated with any of this, Miss. So move along, please. Nothing to see here. Trust me, I'm with the government.

So - did we ever get an index for this thread?

I gave up on the index to the sequel thread. But I did start it, so I might continue sometime.
