Posted Apr 18, 2003 by Dr Zen now with PhD Funding. I would defend internet dating! it works very well for my housemates, (all gay) but nearly everyone in the gay community does it, so you are going to get normal people. also becuase it's a small gay community online, and a small gay commiunity in real life, you rarely meet a stranger, usually you have few mutal friends.
If you meet someone who lives locally then I would see it as being no different to normal dating.
If you meet someone in a pub they're not going to be compeltly honest about themselves either.

Posted Apr 18, 2003 by Dr Zen now with PhD Funding. Humm the dating sites for girls to tend to be infested with annoying straight teenagers who pretend to be lesbains, though gaydargirls is less of a haunt than gay.com.
But still you are unlikely to be taken seriously without a photograph that looks like it isn't downloaded from a porn site!

I've only met two fellas from the net, the second was the one I started going out with. I'd chatted to them both for at least 6 months before I even considered meeting them. I think you can probably guess if people are a bit dodgy, if somebody starts contradicting themselves or sounds at all weird, I stop talking to them. That's the beauty of the net, if you meet a weirdo at the pub, chances are he'll come up and talk to you next time he sees you, but the net is so anonymous you don't have to worry about that.
Yes - shoulda seen "spends too much time at pc" coming, that was only a small bit of it though. He was just too immature for me really, I got fed up with it. It's another case of 'great as mates but not as anything more'!
I got very, very drunk on Thursday night, but was too busy having a good time with me mates to bother about chatting to blokes!
Have a groovy time at the 'funtheque'! teehee

Posted Apr 20, 2003 by Miss quixotic you know what the whole dating game is anoying, and it really is true that when you dont look for a partner they tend to find you, i think you people should concentrate on nights out with your friends, they never fail delight! internet dating? i think there are enough people just going about daily life, its not really needed

Posted Apr 21, 2003 by Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress' Not for me. I am v. shy offline and I do not like the traditional meeting places- which all seem to be pubsnclubs. I do not convey well in RL, at least not compared to here. I was already friends with my boyfriend before we were itemised. I mistrust sites solely for dating tho'. That may be making it more difficult but as you say, they are open to daftness... also I would not want to go on a site for entirely gay girls. And they probably wouldn't want me either. I did join a couple of lists but they seem to be composed entirely of women in the US with children, complaining about unpleasant husbands.

Posted Apr 21, 2003 by Ictoan S.H.A.D.O.W. Secretary - AWE - WAWi I give up. I'd sort of met a young lady who I thought was quite nice and chatted to her in a social context and was thinking of ways we could meet again. Only, today I was out with some friends and friends of friends who I sort of know and found out this lass was a long term girlfriend of one of these friends of a friend. I just get the worst luck

Posted Apr 21, 2003 by Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress' Rotten! folk mucking about. Why? Oddly, although you often hear of folk- with murky purposes, o'course- going online to fool everyone and live as something they are not, I find it easier to be *real* online. Not just here, either.

Posted Apr 21, 2003 by Xanatic, I´m loveable dammit! Well, just talked to a Malaysian friend who's been in America while I've been here. She won't be coming home untill I've left again. How silly. So I still won't get to meet her.
Internet dating must be fairly common. It seems if I mention I know somebody from over the internet, people always assume it's in a romantical context. Instead of just penpal stuff.
Well, I will stay here untill next week. So this is my last chance to get mushy with a malaysian.

Posted Apr 24, 2003 by Xanatic, I´m loveable dammit! It wasn't pheromones. It's a lot of sweat and a bad stomach. But I had to do my online application form before I could go take a bath. Which I will go do now.
BTW, what do you call the stuff you learn during a year in school. The stuff you're supposed to learn. The curriculum? I think there is a better word for it.
