Posted Dec 7, 2007 by van-smeiter Calvin Harris, not sure what the tune's called and not sure if I like it.
Haven't made my mind up about Muse but only ever heard a few tracks. Can you recommend an album to start with, Roymondo?

Posted Dec 7, 2007 by Roymondo: no protests to pimp. It's getting too chilly for all that malarky. Muse? Tricky. They've developed a lot as they've gone on and become better but also more ridiculously overblown (in a good way). The earlier stuff sounds tame compared to the new stuff, but the new stuff can be a tad overwhelming!
I reckon the latest one (the aforementioned 'Black Holes & Revelations') is as good a place to start as any, but you have to give it a few listens.
Imagine hearing early Queen for the first time. It would be a shock but worth persevering with: Muse are similarly excessive but, once you get your head around it, the excess becomes splendour.
Really, give 'em a go.
Currently listening to Talk Talk - 'The Colour Of Spring.' But it just got to the depressing one at the end so I'm about to change it. Not sure what to change it too yet though.

Posted Dec 7, 2007 by van-smeiter Thanks for the advice, I'll muse on it No, I'll give them a go and see what I think. I like the Queen analogy; I can relate to that.
Still listening to Calvin Harris and getting a bit fed up. Think it's time to turn in... though I may first have to listen to
"She Caught The Katy"> Blues Brothers

Posted Dec 7, 2007 by Roymondo: no protests to pimp. It's getting too chilly for all that malarky. Ooh, The Blues Brothers! If I wasn't listening to Talk Talk (specifically 'Renee') I'd be tempted to slap on 'B Movie Box Car Blues' as it features the funkiest, grooviest Telecaster intro the world has ever known.
Actually, on the Muse front, the previous album could be a better bet, 'Absolution', but I'm not sure. Absolution features the song 'Stockholm Syndrome' which, the first time I heard it, made me think 'how the hell do you write a song like that?' It's rather frantic, rather hectic in places, rather overblown in places and a lump of all round 'blimey'.

Posted Dec 7, 2007 by Phil In an uncharitable mood, I might suggest something I listened to earlier, Laptop with I'm So Happy You Failed. If I were in a good and happy mood, I might suggest The Beatles, With A Little Help From My Friends or of course your own suggestion of just Help.

Posted Dec 7, 2007 by Roymondo: no protests to pimp. It's getting too chilly for all that malarky. I stuck Media Player on shuffle and, oddly enough, it just chose 'The End' from Abbey Road, which was a bit of a change of pace after it's previous offering of System Of A Down's 'Needles'.
Ooh, now I've got Queen's 'Mustapha'! Superb.
