the i think u've been very unlucky (or cruel to trees) coz most of the trees i've met r very kind/fun/pleasant life-forms & prefer their food FULLY decomposed!

but what if u'r having a bad day and look decomposed? I hear that Spruces can be quite vicious if they have a hangover.

i think if u still look vaguely recognisable then ur alright. i know some very nice spruce trees. i think it may have summin 2 do wiv the state of the soil they live in (ie how polluted (by us) it is).
