You're correct, at least according to Wikipedia!

"h2g2 was founded in April 1999 as the Earth edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy . . . ." (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H2g2#History)

"Wikipedia was launched as the English Wikipedia on January 15, 2001 . . . ." (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia)
