New(ish) wave of Southern Indian restaurants

If you are used to Balti and Tandoori restaurants and want to try something spicy and different go to one of the newer Dosa restaurants. Dosa is a very thin pancake which has a filling laid on it and it is folded in half. It is not floppy and holds its shape making it a real headturner when your meal is brought to you with about six inches of food stiking out either side of the plate.

Generally delicious and light the dosa is a delightful dish.
Puris are also generally on the menu. Nothing like a tandoori nan the puri is light as a feather. It is dough rolled very thin and then fried in oil. It puffs up to a complete sphere and often arrives at the table that way. As it settles back to its round bread shape you can pick it up and eat it easily with your fingers.

We went to a lovely restaurant in Reading which is part of a chain. I think it was called the Chennai Dosa. There are others across London and the crowning glory was the price of the food. A meal for 7 with soft drinks (including Lassis) came to GBP 45.
