Posted Aug 28, 2002 by the third man(temporary armistice)n strike) I don't think people are more fitness obsessed. I think they are obsessed with 'going to the gym'. If you've never been to a gym then you would expect it to be full of superb looking bodies and oodles of sweat. It's not. The majority of people in a gym are overweight and very unfit. Doing a bit of stretching, lifting a few weights and peddling an exercise bike for fifteen minutes does not constitute a work-out. I gave up going to any gym when I realised it was the modern equivalent of the golf club. I was always a runner and went back to it as I was three stone overweight and yes it was the doctor who told me to lose weight. I try to run ten miles, five times a week and if the weathers lousy I do the run and moan about it afterwards. I eat well, like a beer and have a resting pulse of 52. People are always miles out in guessing my age and I don't have to pay any fees.
