Salt has played an enormous role in the history of the world. In sub-Saharan Africa, it was even currency. Yet h2g2 has no definitive (or even non-definitive) entry on the whitish crystals.

Well, something like the potato entry that recently went through. It wasn't exactly definitive either.
Alternatively, a salty ol' Uni project?

Tango did one some years ago that had a rocky and ultimately unsuccessful path through PR, mainly down to him being a bit stroppy. There maybe some useful elements in that entry that could be incorporated into a revised entry

I've been thinking about writing an Entry on salt for some time. Tango's Entry at A1048367 looks like being a resonable starting point.
I would be happy to participate in a collabotative Entry, if required

ahh just read the entire original PR thread - one of the most amusing things ( i can say that now taht the thing is over, hopefuly?
that ive read on h2g2. Though personally i dont think anything tango said was out of order, though he might have wanted to be a tad more punctuak
