Posted Jul 16, 2009 by JustHere4Coffee Remember the discussions from days gone by about how cable and satellite would be the death of free-to-air sports broadcasting, due to the huge licencing fees the companies could/would pay to secure the rights, and the droves of sports fans that would flock to their services? Yeah, well as Setanta's recently proven that's still not happening, and I for one am sad... because it would get all that ridiculous timewasting off my screen!
Let those that want to watch it pay to watch it. It can only help with the immersiveness of the experience; with that added financial incentive, it really will be just like being at the event, tickets clutched in hand. Why should the regular schedules get thrown into chaos just because of a few people's extraordinarily overpaid physical jerks or whatever?
My only comfort comes from the fact that ITV bids for most of the matches involving grown men chasing balloons of varying sizes... They've nothing worth watching anyway*, so I suffer naught when their lineup gets reshuffled.
*I could go on, but this isn't the place.
