erm Surely it was the scourge of Robert Redford's character? Paul Newman didn't go near a roulette table in The Sting

Actually, to be more precise, it should have been both of them. I can't remember if it's mentioned in the film but certainly in the book Newman's character claims to have been wipe out by gambling. Redford's just a part-time loser. winkeye

I grovel to your superior knowledge. I was not aware there was a book (of the film), or recall that Newman's character's gambling problem was roulette related - no visual flashback to illuminate me. I only remembered Redford's character losing his cash to a crooked roulette table where subtle pins were used to prevent the ball landing in the wrong numbers.

That he did. smiley

The book is by Robert Weverka (I think it's spelled like that), and is pretty much a word-for-word retread of the film.

Now I re-read the entry, though, I do find Redford springing to mind. erm
