Life just became a little more boring now that one of its Great Mysteries is solved here.
Now that I know the mechanism, the magic is lost. Because the lack of magic, I'll probably stop buying toothpaste with strips.

In one of my journals (Physics World) they have a bit at the back called Lateral Thoughts which contains an article from a reader about just about any subject. The last one I read was about why this gentleman decided to do physics at university. It was, in part, so that he could find an answer to this very question. Apparently his father had told him that there were little pixies inside that painted the toothpaste as it came out the tube. He didn't believe this (wonder why) but found the answer when he went to university.
