Prize money?
Posted Jun 18, 2003 by ColBot
I have often enjoyed a viewing of Sumo on TV (Eurosport German service) without really knowing any of the background, so thanks for a great article.

Can you tell me what kind of prize money or other rewards these guys get - and does the envelope the winner receives at the end of the bout have anything to do with this?

Prize money?

Sorry for the delay.
I never check these threads!!
The top matches have prize money. The banners that are paraded around the ring before a match are those of the sponsors. The envelope does indeed contain the prize money, but it's usually top 15 matches only.
