Posted Apr 8, 2003 by Wand'rin star England is now effectively a one-party capitalist state and the US doesn't seem to have any socialist characteristics either. Nobody in the former communist countries of eastern Europe seems to care about the very poor or the very young or the very old. Thank you for a great summary that I hope will provoke a lot of informed political debate

Posted Apr 9, 2003 by Wand'rin star Prescriptions are no longer free. Neither are dentistry or eye tests. It's always been quicker to get treatment by seeing a specialist privately, but now it's too obviously so. The system isn't a patch on what it was, but it hasn't quite got back to as bad as it was before 1944. The great dreams of "decent housing" and education seem rather battered too

Posted Apr 9, 2003 by Wand'rin star That's the point. Low taxation isn't a socialist principle.
