"Shoes series"
Posted Feb 19, 2003 by Aliphil
These books are not a series at all! The only directly linked pair are The Bell Family ("Family Shoes") and New Town ("New Shoes"). Curtain Up ("Theatre Shoes") and The Painted Garden ("Movie Shoes") include as minor characters the Fossil sisters who are the main characters of Ballet Shoes; Posy Fossil is also mentioned briefly in Apple Bough ("Travelling Shoes"). Otherwise there is no overlap. I have never understood why American publishers chose to present them as a series when anyone reading them can easily see that they are not. Anyone know? And why the titles? Party Shoes, Dancing Shoes, OK, these make sense; but what on earth are Family Shoes or Movie Shoes?

FWIW, I really like Party Frock and think it's at least as good as the Bell Family pair and Apple Bough!
