Moving the spirituality thing here, is that ok?

Umm, thought it might be better to move this out of Gnomons Journal, is that ok?

First off I'm sorry if I misunderstood the meaning behind your original post. That can be a problem with my dyslexia.

I pretty much agree with you that, on a purely abstract basis, no time can be said to be more spiritual than another, but the context in which the original poster's statement was made was in reference to Judaic/Christian/Islamic belief systems. which, at that time, had spread throughout almost all of the known world, except for parts of Asia and Africa. Also, generally, people believed in the things which the Church proclaimed to be true. This, at least as far as the Christian side of things is concerned, only seems prevalent in the US nowadays.

However you are right, this time is no less credulous, people seem to need to have some 'higher authority' tell them what is true and just how the universe works, if it was not like this then no-one would buy the Sun or watch Fox News.

cheers

No, I owe you the apology. I hadn't read your posts accurately enough . . . I shouldn't get into these sparky subjects while I'm away on holiday.

My hunch is that we are no different to our ancestors of hundreds of thousands of years back. Laws and methods of getting along evolve, but our basic character can not be expected to change. I guess you may feel the same.

I suspect on a certain level we are very much like our ancestors, but society, as well as mankind, evolves. Unfortunately societal standards often evolve faster than society it's self, which in turn tends to evolve faster than humans can easily adapt.
