Great entry

Really like this entry Bels. Read it a while back and thought it excellent. I know both the bridges well having spent a large chunk of life in Bath and a good few holidays south of the Tamar. Fascinating detail too...the little old ladies peddling wares in gas filled tunnels! yuk! I can just imagine it, must have been quite unpleasant working conditions.
take care

I'm with boots on this, a very good entry about two excellent Victorian engineers.
I watched the programme by Jeremy Clarkson about IKB last year, & he said that the Great Eastern ended it's life in the Mersey as a floating advert, before being scrapped. Apparently the only part that is left is the mast, which is at Anfield football ground.

I agree that they were both excellent engineers, but British? Surely French has to be a more accurate description?

IKB was born in Britian, his father was not, but came to prominance (sp) while working in the UK.
