2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner

Can these ever work, and if so how? From the article it seems the physical chemistry of shampoo and conditioner are antagonistic, so shouldn't work (as indeed my wife tells me they don't). Is there any explanation from the makers? (I write as a regular user of a 2-in-1 and have no complaints!)
