(unless ManU players are somehow exempt)
None of the other players so far nominated would have left as much behind if they'd died as young. He made his First Division debut (at 16) against Cardiff City in April 1953. Though brilliant at left-half,Edwards had the ability to play anywhere, even turning out as centre-forward in an emergency.
Edwards played his last game on February 5, 1958, and had fewer than five full seasons in League football. Yet a few of us old men and women can still remember the artistry, the sportsmanship, the apparant happiness every time he walked on the pitch. Never put a foot wrong until he got on the plane home, dying at 21 of injuries received in the Munich crash. In his home town there's a pub named after him. a statue and a stained glass window, and there hasn't been anything to touch him on the England left since star

He has been compared by some to Roy Keane albeit slightly bigger, with more pace, more skill and more versatility.

Quite a few players who saw him in action have said that he probably would have captained England in 1966 had he survived.
