Dear Robillard,

Thank you for your email regarding Bruce Clark and the Early
Interventions project dated 11 February 2006.

Obviously the waste of such a vast sum of money is undesirable to say
the least, and more so where it is at the expense of much needed
reforms.

This said Lib Dems support the broad thrust of the Children and
Adoption Bill currently going through the Commons. We do however share
your concerns with regards to some of the provisions relating to
contact. A worrying number of cases that come to court involve
domestic violence, and should require courts to assess the risks of
contact, particularly to women and children, before issuing contact
orders. Additionally, the Bill would benefit from the addition of a
requirement for courts to take the child's wishes into account when
determining contact arrangements.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will look further into
the matter.

Yours sincerely

Vincent Cable MP

MP for Twickenham

Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer
