Responsible use of byways(permalink)

There is a bill before Parliament which will give ALL vehicles access to Byways. This means that there is probably a Byway near you that could be used not only by farm transport, but also by Motorcycles, 4x4's - both those acting responsibly and those just intent on putting their vehicle thru' its paces. So even if you live close by or are just visiting the country for a quiet walk to enjoy the sights, sounds and peace, you may be assailed by both noise and speed and there is nothing you can do to stop them. Needless to say that this does not bode well for safety - young children, horses, dogs, wild animals and even fit and able bodied adults could well be at risk. Blockages may be caused, preventing easy access by the emergency services. At the moment only farm vehicles use these byways - the farmer has a knowledge and the experience to keep accidents to a minimum. But off roaders do not have to 'pick up the pieces' of any irresponsible behaviour they may exhibit. All of our countryside should be peaceful for the walkers and horse riders to enjoy. No-one should be put at risk. If you wish to express your views on this subject then please write to your M.P. Angela Dethridge
