Thanks to everyone who turned up and helped out on Saturday 29th October on Make a Difference Day, and we sure did make a difference, the park looks much better thanks to everyone’s efforts!

Chris Wren from Neat Streets unlocked the Bowling Green gates at 9.00am and he stayed helping out all day. Volunteer members of the Mormon Church started arriving and it wasn’t long before they were stuck into the painting, this time the benches were painted as well as the railings. We were very fortunate with the weather, the sun was shining and it was a lovely day.

We managed to complete the area around the entrance to the bowling green. While painting the benches it was apparent that they could be easily repaired so if anyone has or knows of anyone that would be willing to donate some timber, it would be greatly appreciated!

The 19th Grimsby (St Hugh’s) Scout Group arrived at 1.00pm and they started removing the litter under Neat Street’s supervision, thanks again to Chris Wren and Christine Plant (M.B.E.)for supervising.

I managed to conscript some young volunteers who were only too keen to help out painting and litter picking; they did a great job too! It would also seem that we are beginning to make an impact on the park as there wasn’t that much litter, some areas are worse than others but overall the park is looking much better. It was wonderful to see local children taking an interest and helping out on the day.

Thanks also to Charlotte Hubbard and Shoreline for providing the funding for paints and materials.

Other News

I was contacted by Darren Beriro who works for Grantham and Cartwright Associates, they are an Environmental Consultancy.
I met up with him for advice and information regarding our talk at Yarborough School on Monday the 7th November. Thanks Darren!

On (Tuesday 1st Nov. I spoke with David Kitchen (N.E.L.C) who tells me that the Council will be providing 2 sturdy dog bins for the park, we need to ensure that these are located correctly.

I also spoke to David about my concerns regarding the bowling green and pavilion buildings which are slowly being destroyed by vandals, David is looking at other options and funding opportunities for improving the security.

Also on Tuesday I attended the Compact meeting at Grimsby Town Hall, the meeting was very interesting and rewarding and has the interests of the volunteer as its core value and as a volunteer I was only too happy to contribute to the Volunteering Code of Good Practise. For further information call the Compact Team on 01472 231123.

Jane Allen has contacted Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust for further information; also Jane contacted the Discovery Centre who said that they could possibly arrange mini safaris along the River Freshney and marshes.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued help and support.
