Dear Friends,
I am pleased to announce that the Friends of the Freshney will be running events on the Duke of York Gardens (Bully) on this Saturday the 29th October. We will be assisted by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who would like to finish off the painting that they started on the Day of Action back in September. The painting and preparation work will commence at 10.00am.
Later on the St Hugh’s Scout Group will be helping out with a litter pick assisted by members of Neat Streets.
Funding has been made available from Shoreline for paint, materials and tools etc, thanks to Charlotte Hubbard (NELC) for arranging this.
Hopefully the good weather will continue while we keep on steadily improving the park and showing that we can make a difference! Any volunteers are welcome throughout the day!
Also, I would like to appeal to anyone with any specialist knowledge or advice regarding the following subjects:
Geography and water management, drainage, linking into how it aids the local area. For ages 9-11
Children’s water safety. For ages 5-6
The Friends of the Freshney have been asked to speak to the children at a local school and although we can speak about the impact litter and mankind has on the environment and why it is important of us all to take care of our rivers, parks and open spaces, we would like to tie it in with what the children are already studying.
If anyone has any ideas or advice or would like to help us tidy up the park on Saturday your time would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank St Hugh’s Community Centre for the free usage of their excellent facilities for all of the Friends of the Freshney’s meetings and to everyone who turned up on Wednesday evening despite the appalling weather.
Kind Regards
Chris Scott
