This page is dedicated to the classification of confectionary, ie. SWEETS!!!
This stems from an arguement escalacted one physics lesson (i used to have very strange physics lessons... oh how i miss those days!) when a friend was banned from eating chocolate at school then went and ate a caramac & claimed it wasn't chocolate!
Now this may not seem to be a matter of much debate to most of you, but is it chocolate? after a heated disscussion we went round and asked friends, people hanging around in corridors and even teachers if they'd call caramac a chocolate or not.
To begin with the majority of people disagreed with us and prefered to call it a 'candy bar' not a 'chocolate bar'. Then we started with our reasons for classifying it as a chocolate (we came up with a scarey number of these!) & the debate continued.
The Arguments
Caramac IS chocolate!
The texture of a caramac bar is closer to that of chocolate than any other kind of sweet. Different chocolates (incl. caramac) all have different tastes & textures any way though so any slight differences can't be used agaisnt it!
Look at the wrapper & shape of the bar, it looks like a choccie for Pete's sake (who the hells Pete? how did he infiltrate my page?!)
Even thought caramac contains no cocoa (a main agrument used by the opposition) if we classify a chocolate only on its cocoa content what about white chocolate? EVERYONE calls that chocolate!
Carrying on from the previous point... on the continent chocolate must contain a specific amount of cocoa to be considered a chocolate (if u know the amounts please tell me!
). By this standard out own beloved Cadbury's isnt real chocolate! (shock horror!)
Caramac is NOT chocolate!
Caramac doesnt even taste like chocolate!
They both melt-in-mouth, but in different ways.
If caramac is chocolate then so is carob. But carob definitly isn't therefore caramac cant be.
Chocolate contains cocoa, its what makes it chcoclate, but caramac doesn't. Case solved.
Classification Table
This long arguement (now claimed by exams and the summer holidays) led to the (semi-)official table showing the classification of confectionaries (again devised during a physics lesson) which i will eventally endevour to reproduce below...
