With the exception of El Dorado, the mythical land of gold, few countries would appeal so shamelessly to the greedy of this planet as Argentina. Named after the latin word for silver, argentum, Argentina is best known as a country whose people may be described, accurately if unkindly, as Italians who speak Spanish but think they are English. If this is true, then Argentina may well be the place in which the excitement of the Italians, the passion of the Spanish and the formality of the English combine to produce the constant hitching of trousers and an insatiable craving for beef. The men, on the other hand, spend their days looking longingly over the various borders at the libertines of other nations.
