Applause

Forum Code<applause>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="applause"/>
Smileyapplause

Show your appreciation, ladies and gentleman. By banging your open palms together a few times, in a virtual stylee.

Boing

Forum Code<boing>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="boing"/>
Smileyboing

Now, we're sure we can leave it up to you to use this smiley responsibly. No rudeness or innuendo if you're playing with our 'Boing'....

Brr

Forum Code<brr>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="brr"/>
Smileybrr

It's a bit nippy out!

Seeing Double

Forum Code<cdouble>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="cdouble"/>
Smileycdouble

Seeing double can be brought on by many things, whether it's alcohol, losing one's glasses, or a vibrating house. If your blurry vision is from sitting staring at the screen for too long, however, there's a smiley just for you here.

Cheers!

Forum Code 1d_||_b
Forum Code 2<cheers>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="cheers"/>
Smileycheers

We figured we'd call this smiley 'cheers!' rather than 'good health!' because there's one thing we've learned in our youth; there's nothing remotely healthy about chinking two pints of lager together and downing them in one. Everybody knows that it's much, much better for you if you do it with real ale. It's true!

Cuddle

Forum Code<cuddle>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="cuddle"/>
Smileycuddle

Sometimes only a cuddle will do, especially if there's a sofa involved. Hugging is one thing - friends hug at the end of a night out - but cuddling is just so much more meaningful, don't you think? People hug trees, but they cuddle humans, and there's probably a serious point in there somewhere.

Cry

Forum Code 1:'-(
Forum Code 2<cry>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="cry"/>
Smileycry

It can be really good to get it all out in the open, and the primeval way of doing this is to cry. Go on, blub away, and don't worry about the hankies - this is a virtual world, and your tears will magically evaporate. Better already!

Drool

Forum Code<drool>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="drool"/>
Smileydrool

Oh do stop it; it's running down your chin!

Drumroll

Forum Code<drumroll>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="drumroll"/>
Smileydrumroll

Sometimes, simple text isn't enough...you need a bit of percussion to adequately convey the level of suspense.

Eureka

Forum Code<eureka>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="eureka"/>
Smileyeureka

They say that genius is one percent inspiration, two percent perspiration and 97 percent hot baths...

Flying High

Forum Code<flyhi>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="flyhi"/>
Smileyflyhi

Rise above the flame wars by donning a pair of virtual wings and flying high above the crowd. It's simply a case of falling towards the ground and missing, after all... though the wings do help. Considerably.

Foot in Mouth

Forum Code<footinmouth>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="footinmouth"/>
Smileyfootinmouth

Not to be confused with a cattle-afflicting highly infectious viral disease, foot in mouth is for those occasions where you've blundered bigtime - a smiley is surely your only way out of the pit you're digging yourself into!

Good Luck

Forum Code<goodluck>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="goodluck"/>
Smileygoodluck

All the best, felicitations, kind regards... Express all of these sentiments and more with this smiley.

Hug

Forum Code 1{{{}}}
Forum Code 2<hug>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="hug"/>
Smileyhug

If you come across anyone who's having a bad day, who's feeling a bit left out, or who's just used the blue smiley, then give 'em a hug. Hugging's a great way to show that you care, without having to use anything inconvenient like words. Ah, bless!

Kiss

Forum Code 1:-*
Forum Code 2<kiss>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="kiss"/>
Smileykiss

'X and Y sitting in a tree, k i s s i n g...' Drift back into schoolyard politics by throwing a few kisses into your latest Conversation, and sort out the men from the boys and the women from the girls. And once you've done that, move onto smooching. All you need is love, baby!

Laugh

Forum Code<laugh>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="laugh"/>
Smileylaugh

It's more than giggling, it's not quite guffawing, and it's the best way to let it all out - grab your sides, take a deep breath and laugh your socks off. See if you can make it infectious... after all, nothing beats a good dose of the belly-laughs.

Lurk

Forum Code<lurk>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="lurk"/>
Smileylurk

Too scared to say hello? Don't have anything to say, but happy to read everyone else's thoughts on the matter? It could be a simple case of telepathy but it's probably just that you're lurking until you make up your mind whether or not you're ready to dive in. If so, you're very wise and we commend you.

Nah-nah!

Forum Code<nahnah>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="nahnah"/>
Smileynahnah

It's hard not to be rude sometimes, but you can avoid it by being completely cheeky instead. Having a heated discussion with someone? Then stick your fingers in your ears, fan out your fingers and shout: 'Nah nah-nah nah nah!' Now that's what we call irritating!

OK

Forum Code<ok>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="ok"/>
Smileyok

Everybody knows what a thumbs up means except, it seems, scuba divers. For them, pinching your thumb and index finger together in a circle means OK, and thumbs up means 'head for the surface'. I bet those guys throw crazy parties...

Puff

Forum Code<puff>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="puff"/>
Smileypuff

Eaten too much? Puffed up with anger? Then fear not, for h2g2 has a gloriously schizophrenic smiley just for you, because we believe in clouding the issues and confusing hedonism with passion. Which could explain a lot about our love life...

Raised Eyebrow

Forum Code<raisedeyebrow>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="raisedeyebrow"/>
Smileyraisedeyebrow

Hmmm...oh really? Well I never!

ROFL

Forum Code<rofl>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="rofl"/>
Smileyrofl

The world of Internet chat has done wonders for hyperbole. I mean, how often do you really Laugh Out Loud or, as illustrated here, Roll On the Floor Laughing? Great smiley though. Use it!

Rolls Eyes

Forum Code<rolleyes>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="rolleyes"/>
Smileyrolleyes

Sometimes, the repetitive and predictable nature of life can propel you into a vat of existentialist angst - which is when this traditional 'here we go again' gesture might come in most handy. Then again, you could merely be practising Eve Fraser's Facial Workout. Either way - use with care, please.

Run

Forum Code<run>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="run"/>
Smileyrun

Sometimes you just can't get away quick enough, which is where this smiley comes in. Bear in mind, though, that it's a figurative concept, this. If you literally decide to run away from your computer, don't be surprised if you find you can't click your mouse buttons any more. Just a thought.

Shhh!

Forum Code<shhh>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="shhh"/>
Smileyshhh

Bearing in mind the large amount of Internet usage in libraries, this one's especially useful. Can you keep the noise down a bit? People are trying to sleep, for heaven's sake! Also useful in response to the not-yet-created and sadly not-quite-imminent 'someonejustletthecatoutofthebag' smiley.

Shrug

Forum Code<shrug>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="shrug"/>
Smileyshrug

Some things just defy explanation - all you can do is move your arms about a bit.

Sigh

Forum Code<sigh>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="sigh"/>
Smileysigh

A wistful, or possibly frustrated, exhalation of air.

Simpost

Forum Code<simpost>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="simpost"/>
Smileysimpost

Using this smiley, when you've made the same comment as another person, is a lot nicer and less annoying than saying 'Jinx!' like we used to in the old days.

Smooch

Forum Code<smooch>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="smooch"/>
Smileysmooch

The next stage after a kiss, the smooch is a little more specific. After all, there's nothing to stop you from kissing trees, dogs or carpets, but you can only smooch with another loving, cuddling human being. At least, that's the case with this smiley - you do whatever crumbles your cookie, darling.

Snork

Forum Code<snork>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="snork"/>
Smileysnork

Sometimes, things are unexpectedly funny, and those afflicted by hilarity undertake what can only be described as an involuntary spasm - not quite a snort, a snork is a noise made by someone through their nose in moments of great hilarity, resulting in movement of nasal mucus. Urgh...

Somersault

Forum Code<somersault>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="somersault"/>
Smileysomersault

You're happy - overjoyed even. You were down in the dumps, now suddenly you're the Nadia Comaneci of the smiley world. So do us a nice virtual cartwheel, why don't you?

Tickle

Forum Code<tickle>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="tickle"/>
Smileytickle

One of our favourite artists at h2g2 Towers is Ralph McTell, the formidably talented folk singer/songwriter, best known for his little ditty 'Streets of London'. But not a lot of people know that he also wrote and sang the theme tune to the British children's TV programme Tickle on the Tum, and for anyone who can't work out a use for the tickle smiley, we recommend you seek out Mr McTell's work for elucidation.

Tongue-in-cheek

Forum Code<tongueincheek>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="tongueincheek"/>
Smileytongueincheek

When typing it's sometimes impossible to get an idea of a person's tone and misunderstandings can occur - with occasionally disastrous, if highly amusing, consequences. This helpful smiley means you'll never have to type 'I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!!' again.

Whistle

Forum Code<whistle>
GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="whistle"/>
Smileywhistle

Incredibly satisfying to do, but potentially irritating if you're no good at it, whistling is an artform. Lest we should forget the huge talent of Roger Whittaker, here's a whistling smiley so you can pay silent homage to this giant of whistlers. Hats off to you, Roger - you're always in tune!

Yawn

Tired? Then go to bed! What on earth are you doing hanging round on h2g2? Didn't your mother tell you that staying up all night on community websites isn't good for you? No? Ah. Fair enough. You just keep on going then - sorry for the intrusion. Move along now, ladies and gentlemen, there's nothing to see here...

Zzz

GuideML Tag<SMILEY TYPE="zzz"/>
Smileyzzz

Wake up! Wakey, wakey! Honestly, looks like everyone's fallen asleep here. Still, they'll be laughing on the other sides of their faces when they wake up in the morning with 'POIUYTREWQ' embossed on their foreheads. Sweet dreams!
