An unpredictable but wholly useful device at times, and the main drive engine of the ship, the Heart of Gold. It takes Improbability factors into account and transports (usually) the entire shuttle to a new location almost instantaneously using the power of these factors. However, other things have been known to happen, such as other objects being metamorphophosised (hey, we're the Guide, we can invent words if we want to!) into other objects, or strange space-borne travellers being picked up. Small Improbability Drives also require a source of Brownian Motion to function properly.
