AUTISM IS NOT A SINGLE ILLNESS or disease
Autism is not a single 'disease' it is not a disease at all, this is why there can never be a cure for autism.
Autism is actually a group of behaviours common to many known thousands of chromosomal disrorders such as
Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome or even a mild form of mosaicism of isodicentric 15.
Autism is not and never has been a 'single illness' it is unique to each 'sufferer' (many people are 'mild' or 'asperger syndrome' and often suffer social misunderstandings but are nevertheless the more logical, responsible and capable side of society, only seldom to the point of acute (non-malicious) pedantry or personality problem in my experience (usually negative behaviour due to frustration at chronic misunderstanding by society on the whole) .
Others who suffer from stereotypical neuroligcal reactions such as hand-flapping, tip-toe-walking, eye and gut problems with severe learning disabilities are generally able to be diagnosed by FISH and other genetic tests.
Other causes of autistic behaviours can be caused by the misplacement of white matter in the brain, such as that of the real-life 'Rain Main' portrayed by Dustin Hoffman in the film of that title.
