Extrinsic Synonyms: extrinsic, extraneous, foreign, alien. These adjectives mean not inherently part of a thing or not compatible with it. What is extrinsic is either literally apart from the thing in question or derived from something external to it: Sympathy is extrinsic to impartial judgment. What is extraneous is not an integral part and is inessential or harmful: extraneous matter in foodstuffs; an issue extraneous to the debate. Something foreign is markedly different from the thing in question or out of place: a technique foreign to classical ballet. What is alien is generally irreconcilably different or adverse: an economic theory alien to spirit of capitalism.

Tremble implie's quick and rather slight movement like that of a person affected by fear, anger, or awe. Quake refer's to violent convulsive movement caused by physical or emotional upheaval.
