Not to be confused with Charlton, the actor of biblical reputation1, Heston is a rather small dot that appears on British roadmaps mainly as a service station on the M4 motorway in the west of London.
Despite being an ancient village sandwiched between Hounslow and Southall, and once hosting the airport that graduated on to become Heathrow, Heston is probably best known for its location as the last place to stop off on the way into London for a burger before hitting the Chiswick flyover.
What to See
There is a church with foundations predating the Normans2 - it has an ancient lychgate which got hit by a reversing car and now needs a lottery grant to repair; it had giant concrete flower beds out the front that got stolen, and old gates on the wooden porch that also got stolen.
It has a war memorial in the middle of a glorified roundabout, which has the dubious distinction of having been built before the end of the first world war, rather than afterwards which is apparently when most memorials were put up.
It's still only really famous for the Service Station though...
