The Triumph Speed Triple was one of the first "Resurrection" Triumph Models, from its refprmation by John Bloor in the early 1990's. Triumph designed the bike in the form of a modern cafe race bike, ie no fairing and of suitable power.
The first marque, the T309 has a three cylinder, 885 cc engine punching out 97 horsepower which can take the 203 kilogram (dry weight) motorcycle to an impressive 140 miles an hour. It also sports a 5 speed gearbox and a nissin brake system which both make good at going and stopping.
The colours of the T309 (made between 94 and 96) were available in either fireball orange or diablo black. Later models sported the addition of a british flag, as was common of all models around that time.
In 97 came the T509, which changed drasically from a muscular looking street bike to a retro design, with twin headlamps and a new frame design. Later models in 99 also increased engine capacity to 955 cc. Also the colour option of fireball Orange was replaced in a rather nice roulette green. Also a prototype in red has been seen in some books.
Both marques are undoubtedly real head-turners, attracting interest often. Many people are known to comment (especially older people who remember the Meriden Triumphs) that they didn't know that the company was still in business, but are pleased to find that not only are they resurgent, but the quality of the machines is better than ever before. The Triumph Speed Triple, is in the authors opinion a beautiful piece of engineering, an opinion which is shared by the owners of this wonderful machine the world over.
