Are British insensitive to banging doors?

I have been living in a Manchester University hall of residence as a research student since January 2007. As an overseas student, I need to adjust myself to the living here. Apart from a unique British weather which is totally opposite to Thailand where I come from, one of the culture shocks I come across is how British students and wardens are so insensitive to banging doors. Why or are they insensitive to this thing? Or I, as a Thai who in general prefers soft and gentle approach, am too sensitive about this little thing?

Banging doors I have experienced daily start from the reception area of the hall. Everytime the doors shut the loud bang can be heard a hundred yards away. It seems a warden who is in the reception kiosk pays no attention. Or she/he is just get used to it?

The banging door continues at the door into my flat building. It is a pity that a student who stays next to it, in my opinion, has to 'live with it'. Has he/she informed a handyman to fix it? I doubt not.

Another banging door belongs to the room beneath mine. I can hear a squeaky noise and a bang everytime the girl opens it. It really disturbs me mentally especially in the middle of the night (because this girl is a late nighter). It has been months and she seems fine with it.

What is wrong with the Brit? Or in fact, what is wrong with me? May be it is just a cultural difference. The country I come from people usually close a door quietly but not letting go of the knob until it is properly shut unless they want to show some kind of disapproval. I may need to 'live with it' and will either finally get used to it or go crazy before finishing my study.
