Aeroplanes and Carbon Dischages(permalink)

I telephoned the BBC News the other morning to query a statement made on the early morning news about an aeroplane flying from London to the USA. They claimed that on this flight, one way, an aircraft would discharge 250 tons of carbon. My question was, "I understand that an aircraft would not even weigh 250 tons fully loaded at take-off.
As the BBC, took no notice, I telephoned British Airways and asked them. But in "Cool Britannia", British Airways only do e-mails. I have got the telephone number of the Head Office, with Rod Eddington I could always connect with his Staff. Now, it is just like a call centre.
The Point. How can an object leaving the earth, gain about One Hundred Ton of weight in a few hours, discharge this excess weight plus more, into the atmosphere and still land in the USA, weighing as much as it did when it left London ?
Magic, these "Global Warming Experts". Fairy Stories Unlimited.
Regards, ATF.
