I would like.....if I may...to tell you...about a strange and wonderful movie.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not just a movie, it's an experience. At what other movie where not only is yelling, dancing, and throwing rice allowed, it's encouraged? Of course, this movie isn't for everyone; those intoxicated, easily offended, close minded, or with heart problems need not apply. (Actually, heart problems are fine, but enter at your own risk.)
In order to do this show properly we need a cast (i.e. Under Sedation, Apple Pie, The Bawdy Caste, Barely Legal, Frank's Virgin Ears, The Zen Room, Midnight Insanity, Voyeristic Intentions, etc.) that preforms the movie in front of the screen. Audience partitipation, or AP, is encouraged; from throwing props to yelling back at the screen, it's all part of the show.
There are a few things you need to bring with you when you go to Rocky (though only one is required):
PROPS:
rice (somebody's getting married) bic lighters (so when you go out, so does the fire)
playing cards (for sorrow and pain) toliet paper (Great Scott!)
squirt guns (it's raining, it's pouring) newspaper (protection from the squirt guns)
hot dogs (Frank N. Furter!) noise makers (Party!)
confetti (Go Franky!) party hats (Happy Birthday, Rocky!)
flash lights (there's a light) toast (to absent friends)
bells (when we made it...) gloves (Ouch...that hurt!)positive attiude (this is the only one that is required)
Rules are subject to change, so check with your local theatre for the "house" rules. Upon NO occasion are you to bring BAD VIBES!
Audience members often come dressed as their favorite characters or in sometimes in sexy lingerie, for the most part anything or almost nothing goes!
Cast's also have THEME nights. Examples include: Star Wars night, an evening with Austin Powers, Pimp & Ho night, Pajama Jammie Jam. Halloween is always a big turn out for Rocky, so if you plan on going, get to the theater early.
During various times casts recruit for new members. So if you like what you see and you think you got what it takes, (which really isn't much) talk to the cast after the show and get ready to have your weekends filled.
Not only do fans flock to the movie every friday and saturday night, but there are RHPS events; one such event, the Rocky Horror Picture Show Convention or "Con" brings together casts from around the country. Participants preform, meet each other, have costume contests, but most of all....PARTY!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is something that every one should go see at least once. The movie is rated-R but most theatres tend to let people slip by. Hope to see you at the show.
