The Niagra Falls, located in both Canada and the United States of America by the Great Lakes, are a somewhat interesting display of millions of gallons of cascading water off a escarpment. The escarpment was formed from the falls slowly wearing away at the ground. While this is rather boring, there are a few interesting points. Here is your basic guideline of stuff to do while visiting the falls:
1. Buy fudge. Theres a rather nice shop right inside the air-conditioned area that, like a majority of canada, sells fudge. Its quite good. I had a bit.
2. Investigate that large tower behind you when you look at the falls. After a bit of exploring, I found it to be a rather expensive classy rotating restaurant. It is most likely the first thing to interest you apon your visit. As you walk dazed toward the pretty structure, you'll run into a 70 degree or so incline. There is an incline railway that charges a ridiculous sum to go up such a small distance, but around 200 meters to the right of the railway from the falls, you can find a worn, climbable path up the side of the area. Walk from there toward the tower and you'll reach it. On the bottom floor, a variety of very amusing video games and tourist shops lie. The elevator ride to the top costs around 5-7 dollars depending on your age. Its really not worth it. All you see it the falling water from farther away. The water I ordered in the restaurant before they asked me to leave was quite good, but I do suspect it was still tap. I did not have the funds to partake in any of the other delicious looking dishes, but they smelled quite excellent.
3. Fireworks on fridays; Don't bother. Its nothing special.
4. 'Maids of the Mist' Tour. This is somewhat worth the money. You are packed like sardines on a tourboat to go very close to the falls. Sort of, vaguely interesting.
5. Well, theres really not all that much to do there. The best place to park is above the actual tourist area of the park and walk down around. You'd understand if you saw the area. It requires a bit more walking, but you shouldn't really be tired. heh.
Several things to avoid are buying anything from the gift shops, Be sure to bring film with you, and do not, repeat, do not take the 'Under the Falls' tour. Its completely a waste of money. The portals from which you see from behind the falls just look like a sheet of white falling, and the complementary plastic robes aren't very fashionable either.
