Alerts help you keep track of any new comments/messages that interest you on Film Network without having to visit the site to check them. If you sign up for email alerts you will receive a daily email every time a new comment or message is left on a strand that you have subscribed to.

Email alerts are available for the following:

• messages left on your profile page
• responses to messages you have left on someone else's profile page
• new comments added to a film page
• new comments added in a discussion

To subscribe to receive any of the email alerts listed above, click on the relevant links across the site. These links are situated in the comments section on all film pages, in your message section on your profile page, in individual messages left for you and on the discussion section of magazine pages.

Please note – You can subscribe to receive email alerts for all messages, just for replies to your messages or for both.

Any email alerts that you subscribe to will be listed on your ‘email alert manager’ page that you can access by clicking on the ‘manage my email alerts’ link on the right-hand side of your profile page.

To permanently stop receiving emails about a particular strand, go to your ‘email alert manager’ page and underneath the name of the alert, click on the ‘remove alert’ link. The alert will be removed from your list.

You can also turn off all your alerts for short periods e.g. perhaps you don't want to be sent alerts while on holiday. To turn all your email alerts off, click on the ‘stop all email alerts’ link on your ‘email alert manager’ page, highlight the ‘turn email alerts off’ button and click ‘change’.

If you want to turn all your email alerts back on, click on the ‘start all Film Network alerts’ link on your ‘email alert manager’ page, highlight ‘turn email alerts on’ and click ‘change’.

An email will be sent to you daily (around midnight) informing you of any new comments/messages left on strands that you have subscribed to. All your alerts are grouped and sent in one email. If no new comments or messages are left you will not receive an email. In the future we also hope to offer users an option of how often they receive these alerts (e.g. daily or weekly).

Alerts are sent to the email address that you gave when you registered on bbc.co.uk. If you want your alerts sent to another email address, you will have to change the email in your membership details.

To change the email address in your bbc membership, sign in and then click 'Retrieve my details' in the tab in the top right of the page.

You will be asked to enter your password again. In your details scroll down and click the 'Make changes' button. On the next page enter your new email address.

The address will need to be verified by replying to an automatic email sent to that new address. When you reply to the email your membership details will be updated and Film Network alerts will now be sent to your new email address.
