Richard Williams (Roger Rabbit) genius. in this film you will almost every genre of frame animation and modern art displayed, inlcuding Williams disney magic frame drawn techniques. The inspiration of the bones of the film Alladin & elements like the character of Grandma from Belleville rendevous, scenes later pastiched for 'animatrix' plus endless mindboggling scenes of escheresque complexity; other notables from cinema recently which we all enjoyed: a scanner darkly 3 times, curse of the golden flower; & the (utterly mindless) but beautiful '300' lovers of (good) sci-fi. Alex has a keen interest in Ghibli, and of course anything remotely resembling animation. we were brought up on a heady mix of modern art and cartoons; Disney & picasso in a family of professional artists, so we have a wide interest in moving image and hope to remain open minded. Jan Svankmayer, Len Lye, Ridley Scott, Anthony Gormley. The Shynola - The Krays of animation and good eggs in a tough world. In a family of talented artists there's inspiration in every corner from music to painting, laughter and stories b 'Terra 2050' was inspired by Creature Comforts, (production techniques) but we were all interested in the idea of 'future' and our relationship to it. Alex is a badge carrying member of the British Cactus Association and Christos is a keen amateur microbiologist. We like to explore new techniques, love puppets, cardbaord cut outs. We try and use new techniques whenever possible and have a passion for originating our own devices. Christos is an active music producer which feeds into the studio's work while Alex is currently exploring chinese brush work - inspired by the film 'Hero'. Iain Welland is a long time collaborator with shroomstudio. his work encompasses many forms of animation and as a key member of the 'Terra 2050' team and senior animator on the animated film 'Jazzdaze' with Courtney Pine and the North Musical Trust, Iain continues to produce iconic images for the studio that blend drawing skills with technology seamlessly "We currently have 2 freelancers in the studio, Steven Azancot and James Harvey, both MA animation graduates and each talented in their own special way, contributing towards the eclectic studio happenings of shroom and helping create a 'slightly different' look for bbc2 current affairs docs. It's inspiring to have animators around who possess talent, want to learn, develop & give things their best shot, it's also a privilege to work with Alex, someone you can really trust and who has the 'rare' experience to make animation for television work brilliantly. my links
