biography

This profile is now a couple of years old.. I don't use this site much anymore, mostly because of the terrible video quality. I now live in Bournemouth as a freelance DoP.

Hello, I'm Luke Flegg, 21 from Buckfastleigh in Devon. I work self employed as a video producer on my own equipment, making videos for any individuals, groups or companies that are willing to pay!

I also work 2 days a week as the media technician of South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton.

I have a BTEC ND in Media (Moving Image) from Plymouth College of Art & Design
ambitions
I've always loved film+video cause it's a creative artform that's so rich, the power of music/radio, photography, and storywriting all in one.
I've always wanted to do the same thing; travel, learn, and share it with the world through in a creative way.
I'd love one day, to shoot for overseas documentaries, current affairs, war zones.. I'm also fascinated by gvmt safety ads (smoking/fire/road safety) because I think they're moralistically worthwhile but also incredibly beautiful.

My ambition right now is to finish my own screenplay (half-drafted) get funding, and produce it, as my first feature. I want a production partner to bounce ideas, and share the load; not neccessarily industry experienced, but with knowledge, passion, and a lot of time.
project in development
I'd love to talk about this with anyone interested, particularly if you would like to be involved!

I'm writing my first feature. A drama about childhood; the gulf of miscommunication and misinterpretation between children and adults today. The 9 and 12 year old main characters are quite ordinary kids, depicting what it's like growing up here in the south west. I'm writing this out of frustration that growing up watching films, I never saw anything that perfectly conveyed my estrangement to the world as a kid, how I was patronised and overlooked and misunderstood. I want to make this movie before I'm too old and forgotten how I felt.

I want adult audiences to feel enlightened as to how kids think, and see the world. My dream is that it could perhaps make adults reconsider how they relate to children and understand them better, resulting in a more functional relationship. (While also being an exciting, beautiful and evocative drama of real life)

I've created these forums as a place for those interested in the project to network with each other and myself http://kyle.sedative-servers.co.uk/phpbb3/index.php
influences, inspirations and favourite films
I respect Mike Leigh greatly for managing to tell an engrossing story with ordinary characters in quite ordinary situations. I like how raw and convincing his presentation is, beautiful but unpolished. I think it's great how he can focus very clearly on a snapshot of an overlooked lifestyle and portray it in an elightening intimate way that evokes the audiences own relations to it.

I also respect LArry Clark for not only his vivid depictions of youth culture, but the incredible balls he has to offer up some scenes that blow you right away- you can't prepare yourself for a Clark film. though he can take it a bit far to the point of desensitisation.. The most inspiring quality of Clark's in my mind is how he brings out something so shockingly real in his cast. Like the main character from 'Kids' makes me shiver
