biog I am a British Architect, and work full time for a firm of Landscape Architects in London. I have been interested in film since a young child, and was taken by my parents to see ‘Jaws’ when only eight years old in 1975. I attended a year long film appreciation class, in 1997, followed by a nine month long evening class in 16mm filmmaking in 1998. Shortly after completing this, I developed my first short film project, a self funded 35mm short of my mother’s hands preparing samosas, which was inspired by the boxing sequences from ’Raging Bull’© UA/MGM.. This two year project culminated in a self financed West End premiere. It has subsequently screened at over 50 film festivals, and in UK cinemas with features by Pedro Almodovar, Stanley Kubrick, Roman Polanski, Mira Nair & Asif Kapadia. I have introduced the film at several international film festivals for the past three years, including events dedicated to documentaries, films about Asians, Women, Food and the disabled. It qualified for Oscar® submission in 2003 in the Short Documentary Subject category, and a print was acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in New York earlier this year. I have written a few short scripts over the past three years, including one about Asians and football, which received written support from Nick Hornby, Stephen Frears, the Football Association, and Sir Bobby Charlton. I have also produced treatments for both short and feature length ‘hybrid documentaries’, and recently completed a short commercial as both producer and director, together with my previous crew. This four minute film was sponsored by O2 Mobile Communications, and screened in selected UK cinemas with a Bollywood feature. It has also screened at film festivals in Los Angeles and New York.
ambitions I am currently developing a feature length script, but would also like to continue making short experimantal documentaries.
influences, inspirations and favourite films My favourite films include The Godfather, Cinema Paradiso, The Hustler, Lift to the Scaffold, Taxi Driver, Days of Heaven, Stranger Than Paradise, She's Gotta Have It, Amelie, as they are all film I can rewatch at any time, and from any point within the film.
I am inspired by films which use the medium to tell their story, and would not work as a novel, or on the stage. I am fascinated by the art and craft of film making, and admire film-makers whose work is innovative, and who have considered even the smallest detail which others may have ignored.
