Film making began when writing, directing and starring in weekly Super 8 silent comedy shorts for the Magnificent Seven Comedy night at the Man in The Moon pub theatre. Wrote and acted in Life Class, a mixture of live action and animation, directed by Nick Willing, which won the Golden Dragon at the Krakow film festival. Pitbull is Michael’s first film to be televised - on Meridian Television’s Taped Up series where it won the prize for best film in the series. For the past ten years Michael has been combining writing projects with working with prisoners in ten prisons and Young Offenders Institutes around the country. Some of this work has been linked with theatre and film – devising and running drama and video making workshops. But the bulk of the work has been as a facilitator on the Offending Behaviour Programme Unit’s cognitive behavioural rehabilitation programmes with violent and sexual offenders. Currently working at St Mungo’s as an Employment Link Worker, creating a relationship with soon to be released prisoners in Wormwood Scrubs and Pentonville prisons and then guiding them into training and work when they hit the streets. Current writing projects are a novel and a play script – both dealing with offenders.
