Gareth Crook
animator,   director,   production designer  | North West

biography

biog
Gareth Crook has now been producing his own short experimental films for around five years. His work is concerned with exploring new techniques for creating innovative film and animation. Many of his films can be found at www.graphicquarter.com, his portfolio website which itself has gained enthusiastic praise. Gareth uses GraphicQuarter to promote and publicise his work, both as a online portfolio and hub of the design community in the north of the UK. Gareths films have reached global TV audiences and many have been well received on the festival circuit. With films including 2D and 3D animation, as well as more traditional filming styles, Gareths work always succeeds in producing something new and interesting. A Motion Graphic Designer for one of the UKs leading production teams, Gareth brings his knowledge of contemporary graphics to all his work, and it's this clean style that influences much of his work, if not in visual aesthetic then in its construct. A keen promoter of new media and design, Gareth is a contributor to the ever popular Comuterlove website, a design portal with a vast community, a like minded creative family. His input here is concerned with pushing forward the positive and thought provoking material made available by designers on the web.

influences, inspirations and favourite films
I'm a fan of the darker side of movie making, but not the gruesome. I like films that explore human emotion and experiment with film techniques. Some favourites would include: Pi, Bartleby, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Fargo, Caught On A Train, Dr.Strangelove, Le Diner Du Con, 12 Angry Men, The 39 Steps, The Way Things Go, A Walk Through H, Kind Hearts & Coronets.
