Steve Dunster
composer  | South West

biography

biog
I am a film composer and conductor based on the Southern Coast of England and have been composing since the age of eleven. In 1989 I started writing short stories and poetry. In 1997 I started conducting. In 2001 I started songwriting. In 2004 I started composing for film.

Nowadays I only conduct and compose, though in years past I played at the Royal Albert Hall London, played on live national radio, toured extensively and was in the quartet that became Southern Counties Champions.

When I compose I will use electro-accoustic and synthesizers when needed, but most of my work is either for full orchestra or smaller orchestral ensembles.

I like to think that my work is accessible, easy on the ear and audience-friendly. That said, it always has an emotional story to tell.

I spend a lot of time studying the emotional context of any film I score for and I only write music where it enhances the drama. My turnround time is very quick.
ambitions
I am interested in underscoring for feature films, short films and television.
