Jake West claims that his 1998 horror pic Razor Blade Smile is the cheapest film to have been released in the UK. His debut's £20,000 budget has risen to £280,000 for new splatstick horror pic Evil Aliens, which has another unique cinematic claim: the only movie to be released in the UK featuring a combine harvester, bloody carnage, and The Worzels.

Evil Aliens won the Raindance Award at the British Independent Film Awards in 2005, an award celebrating "exceptional achievement by filmmakers working on very low budgets and against the odds". Against even greater odds, the film is now getting a 20-print release at Odeon Cinemas across the UK. "If audiences come out of the cinema having been entertained and with a smile on their faces, I think the film will have done its job," says West. "If they come out bitter and angry that it doesn't address any social concerns or issues," he adds, "they probably shouldn't have gone to see a film called Evil Aliens!"
