synopsis
Airline safety card characters come to life and try to cope with the demands of an emergency situation.
short fact
The idea for Safety Procedure came from an article that I read in a newspaper about the fact that an aeroplane had never successfully landed on water in an emergency.

This instantly struck me as perhaps rendering the safety cards in planes as somewhat pointless!

I'm not really an animator so the film was a bit of a labour of love, even though it's short. The reward is that it seems to be popular and people are getting to see it.

What I like best about it is that the simple
'friendly' animation subverts the reality of the events depicted. Everyone laughs, but really this is horrific and scary stuff.

I used Illustrator based illustrations – to keep vectors/lines sharp – imported into After Effects and animated (crudely!). Motion blur added to give an authentic shake to the camera as it moves around.

People say they didn't find it funny? I don't think this is supposed to be? I thought it was a good idea and well produced, seeing as you say you're not really an animator. I've worked in the airline industry and this safety record is a true and terrifying fact. This film of course won't change anything, but it raises a very good point, one that people should perhaps be aware of.

A great idea but I have to agree that it wasn't at all funny. I also thought the sound didn't help, the voice was wrong and the mix was a bit 'messy'.

Sorry but I don't think it is funny. That's not because of any objection to the idea, I like irony as much as anyone. It just is not funny. I showed it to some friends and they didn't find it funny either.

Thought it could have heightened the sense of irony and panic. Visually, I liked it.
